Super
Course Photo Equipment,
Classroom and Film Needs
You Can Try Our U/W
Photo Equipment during your Super Course.
We have many types of cameras in use at the photo centre, but in
today's world everyone is using a different system. Thus, if you
have a problem, we may have to set you up with a different type
of digital camera than the one you are using, or with a Nikonos
system. In any event, no one has to stop taking pictures because
of a breakdown.
Camera Rental during your Super
course
If you do not have your own camera system, you can rent
a complete digital system for US$525.00.
If you prefer film you can rent a Nikonos
system--camera, strobe and lenses--for the entire week for only
$160.00.
Special Rentals
You can sometimes arrange in advance to rent some of
Cathy's personal equipment for one dive; call Cathy or Herb for
information.
Classroom
In the air-conditioned classroom there is a workspace
for each student to store his or her own photo equipment and to
charge batteries. (Current is 110v, 60 cycle.) We have three computers
with card readers, CD burners and printers as well as light
boxes, loupes, test equipment and tools.
Please make arrangements in advance if you do not have your own
computer. We also have both film and digital projectors.
What
Film to Bring for your Super Courseread this thoroughly.
We process E-6 film
every night and critique it with you the next morning. Processing
of one roll per diving day (unmounted) is included in the tuition.
For an additional charge, we continue to process as many rolls as
you wish at US$7.00 per roll, and can mount your slides in plastic
slide mounts for $3.00 per roll. The E-6 films are Ektachrome, Fujichrome
and Agfachrome. Kodachrome films cannot be processed on the island.
Print film can be processed and printed locally for around $20.00
per roll.
We carry all the right types of film
and you can buy as you go at excellent prices. If you wish
to bring your own, bring 36-exposure rolls, as it is not
safe diving practice to go to the surface repeatedly after 24 exposures
for film changes. To simplify planning, Kodak Ektachrome 100VS
is great for both long shots and close-ups. Motor Marine II users
will need more ISO 200 and 400 film (instead of ISO100 film)
for use with your wide-angle adapter or your built-in standard lens.
If in doubt, buy it from us so you need only purchase exactly what
you use. The new Fuji Provia 400F is great for Motor Marine II users. The
number of rolls students have shot during the eight-day class ranges
from 11 to 25, and averages 18. If you prefer, bring about 14 rolls
of ISO 100 (such as Ektachrome E100VS, Provia 100F) for long shots,
9 rolls of ISO 50 (such as Fujichrome Velvia) for close-ups and
2 rolls of Ektachrome 200 for special needs such as in the grotto.
The new Fujichrome Velvia 100 is fine grain, but in my long shots,
it didn't have the color sparkle that I get with the VS. I don't
know whether you will shoot more wide-angle photos or more close-ups
on the days when you can shoot either, but don't forget that you
can buy as you while here.
Picture Maker
We have several instant picture makers, that makes wonderful
prints from your
digital cards.
